Angela Horn's Home Birth Reference Site is an exceptional
resource for those considering this option. The aim of her site is
not to persuade parents to choose home birth but rather to
"provide information about home birth, for parents who think
that it might be the right choice for them, and for health
professionals looking for facts and ideas."
The site includes articles, birth stories, references, news
items, links, and recommended books. The birth stories are a
treasure, and a wonderful resource for anyone considering laboring
and/or birthing at home. In an especially useful section, Angela,
the Home Birth Coordinator of the UK National Childbirth Trust,
has summarized 42 published studies of home birth. Each summary
includes a link to its abstract on Medline or to the full study in
an online medical journal.
Articles (linked from the "Contents" section) include
the excellent "You can't have a home birth, because..."
Other articles cover doctors, midwives, pain relief, home birth
after Cesarean, transfers from home to hospital, home birth plans,
and more. There is a special section for helping mothers in the UK
to find midwives, doctors, and home birth support groups.
